Apistogramma sp. "Rio Mamore" or?

A friend of mine have bought these wild caught sold as Apistogramma sp. "Rio Mamore".

Is it possibly an A16?

No, A 16 is a regani-group species. Regani-group species do not have a lateral spot like your female. "A. sp. Rio Mamoré" was the name used for A. erythrura prior to being described. It is a trifasciata-group fish. What does the male look like?

Yes, that looks to be A. erythrura (formerly sp. Mamore). Very nice fish. I had some nearly 20 years ago and enjoyed them very much.

Just like my male here. The one you shown is a young male. As he gets older the body will develop more intense blue coloration like A. trifasciata.
