I am looking to have a species only tank for apistogramma bitaeniata. I was just wondering what family they belong too and any other information that might be valueable to know about them specifically. I have a couple species of Apisto's currently(agassizi/baenschi). I was also trying to recreate their habitat to my best ability would this be the typical leaf litter/driftwood tank. I like plants but I wanted to sort of biotope this tank so to speak.

In my species listing A. bitaeniata belong to the bitaeniata-complex of the bitaeniata-group of the agassizii-sublineage of the trifasciata-lineage.:) TomC's web site (http://apisto.sites.no) has many photos of A. bitaeniata biotopes where he collected this species. In short, the species occurs in jungle covered blackwater streams among leaf litter above a fine sand substrate; not many plants at all.
