It seems pretty appropriate that this week the stunning Apistogramma Barlowi gained a new name and is in the fishkeeping headlines and at the same time i have had my first (small) successful spawning..

I aquired this pair about five months ago and they matured into stunning fish, i have had two unsuccessful spawnings and finally third time lucky has produced a few fry, granted only three fry are not earth shattering but i am happy that i have finally bred them and caught some rare , unusual behaviour on both moving video and still photos..Hopefully they will carry on being productive and raise more than three per spawning!!!!

Congrats on the spawn. My first spawn was a little on the small side too, but I think it's because I moved her to a solo tank too soon and scared her. The subsequent spawns have regularly yielded 20-30 fry per spawn, as an average. I always move the females to their own 10 about 5-6 days post-spawn now and this works well. They usually release their fry within a couple days. She'll continue to guard them for a while after that. They're a really neat fish and definitely worth keeping. They don't seem to pop up too often, but I just sold/traded the last of my spawns, some 80 fish, last month. Getting ready to set mine up again. Enjoy!

BTW, exquisite photos. Great lighting and very clean pictures.
