Pistia is illegal in the EU since last year. I'm kinda glad I don't have any left anymore. Here in Germany it's now less of a problem to grow Cannabis for personal use than having Pistia in your fish tanks.
In Colorado Salvinia is illegal where it is considered an invasive, noxious, weed. Please don't mention my Salvinia-choked tanks to the local authorities. My excess Salvinia goes into the compost bin.

As for Cannabis - and Psilocybin (Magic) Mushrooms - the same is true in Colorado.

I applaud your state for that since 2012.

No worries, you take care of the excess in an exemplary way. ;)

Yes, have fun. If you had written "a pair" I'd have strongly advised to not do it, but as you say you are adding only a single male it will work.

BUT

please add at least double the amount of wood hardscape. Island scapes lack cover all the fish you want would need to feel safe and not stress out. Corydoradini catfish should definitely be offered shelter from wood pieces. Just for cover from above, no caves.

A single kept dwarf cichlid would also lack stimulation and enrichment in this setup. It takes more than leaves and some seed pods. Go out to the woods, gather dry twigs, maybe even get a bigger one you can lean to the glass. Just offer the fish a lot of structure.

That's my advice.
Does this seem better?

Quick update. Floaters are growing like crazy. Have added all the fish, most of the aquatic plants seem to be hanging on but not thriving(might be a lack of light). Added more botanicals, and a coconut palm flower stalk. Really happy with the overall look.

Be carefull with the coconut palm flower stem. I killed off 5 fish, before I figured the cause.
Hopefully it was just mine, that came from a bad source. I bought them at gardenshop as christmas decoration.

I like the tank.

Hi all,
Is that Monstera sp ?
Yes, a Monstera and an Epipremnum aureum.
If so you have to make sure the leaves don't fall into the water as they are poisonous.
I know that all Aroids contain <"raphides and druse">, but I've never had any problem with Anubias, Cryptocoryne, Epipremnum, Spathiphyllum etc. leaves in the tank.

Is it specific to Monstera spp.? I know you can eat the ripe fruit.

cheers Darrel

They say Epipremnum and Monstera are poisonous to cats and dogs, but there is little chance of problems with fish. The fish would have to try and eat it.

So I agree with Darrel: Not a significant problem.

I found a prehaps bad ai generated page that suggested the fishes can injure themselves on the hard crystals and it can get in their gills.

As I said, if the fish eat the stuff, it is possible, otherwise I should have lost dozens of fishto this.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
