Advice about ratio

Hello all!

This is my first post but I've been browsing this forum for a while and I registered a little while ago. I would need some advice regarding the ratio for my (future) apistogrammas agassizii. I was first thinking of getting a trio but I've read some horror stories about one of the two females being killed by the other, so now I'm not sure anymore. Would it be better, according to my setup, to have a trio or only a couple?

This is their setup:
A low 20 gallons, with plenty of hiding places in the form of plants and pieces of driftwood, and there are two caves (coconuts) at the opposite ends of the tank. The tankmates will be some hatchetfish and some otocinclus.

Thanks for any input!

In my opinion, for your setting, a trio is all fine because there are sufficient
hiding places. So, if breeding the species is important, a trio will be
preferred as it increases the success chance. ^.^
