A macmasteri tank size and mates

I currently have a 20gallon long with lots of hardscape and plants and will probably get a breeding tank between 10-20 gallons. I want to get apistogramma macmasteri, could 2 or 3 work with some smaller species of pencil fish and or some other fish ( open to options) with the apistogramma mostly in 20gal and moved in the breeding tank for breeding reasons

If the bigger tank is supposed to be a community tank just put s single male in it. For the breeding tank: A. macmasteri are quite big, so I would get a second 80 Liter tank as the breeding tank and move the male back and forth when the female in the second tank is ready to breed. Then remove him after spawning. You will need a 100 Liter as growout to prevent runts and get them all to sale size at the same time. Do you have a buyer for them in bulk? If not make that happen before breeding.

Buyer. Go, ask the stores in your area if anyone would be interested in buying your fish once they reach sale size.

By the way: Sale size is usually 4cm, when sexing becomes somwhat safe. Means 3-5 months growout.

Not sure about Macs but for most of the species i have 7 or 8 months seem closer to the norm.
