Hi,

Recently I purchased 2 fish which were sold to me as A. Macmasteri. They are not wilds (to the best of my knowledge) and are of a standard commercially bred strain.

Whilst I am not fussed in temrs of raising fry (the Sterbai Cory pictured will not help), I am keen to know whether I have a male and a female or indeed 2 males.

The

This is what I believe to be a male (around 1.5" long):

I believe this to be the female (around 1 inch long and noticeably shorter Dorsal fins):

Any indication of their sex would be much appreciated. I hope the pictures are sufficient - they are tricky to focus on before they dart off!

Many thanks - John.

The male looks like a male, but the small one is too small to be sure yet. Does the small one's head look deformed, or is it just a funny camera angle?

Thanks for your reply Gerald. I'm not entirely sure about the head of the smaller one. I have thought it doesn't look quite right but then again, he/she is still very small so will monitor over next few months and see how it develops.

At times I have my doubts as to whether they are A. Macmasteri, they seem too yellow almost but it may just be the colour strain of those?
