Nice tanks, but I must say that almost none of the Peruvian biotope tanks look like the true biotope - thank Goodness. They obviously haven't been there!

Ha! We look forward to a more accurate recreation of the Peruvian biotopes from you in 2015? (Actually, with the great amount of photos from Tom C. et al. there is inspiration to create quite accurate biotope aquaria, indeed). I did wonder how many of the contestants have actually been to the biotopes - several stated they simply researched via books, online, etc and based their work on that. But some contestants in other regions have been to the biotopes, ie. Anton Lamboj, and some of the judges obviously have been to the actual biotopes. In any case, all of them point in the direction of being aware of natural habitats and working to reconstruct them within the limitations of the aquarium as best they can. It's good to see that many on this forum who are creating biotope aquaria and sharing here are doing really good work!

Hi all,
I don't really understand the concept of aquascaping contests, but the "biotope" aquaria are at least reasonably fish friendly, if nothing like biotopes.
That is more than you can say for some of the other categories.

I still remember the AGA comments when Lukasz "Ruki" entered his <"black water Apistogramma tank"> in 2009.

I certainly wouldn't want a true biotope tank in my house - slime algae, fungus growing on leaves and wood, ugh! OH, wait. Some of my tanks DO look like that!
