I have a 20-gallon-long aquarium, and I was thinking of adding a pair or one male of Apistogramma cacatuoides or trifiasciata. What are some potential tank mates?

Maybe 5 oto once the aquarium is mature; the tank is pretty shallow so dithers will only work with more passive species of apistogramma. My winkelfleck, ladisalo and Blutkehl will accept the smaller species of nannostomus and rasbora but my wolli won't tolerate much and the wc cockatoo i had wouldn't tolerate anything in a 16 inch tall aquarium.

With the two species you mentioned i would skip dithers - you could have some of the smaller snails like ram horn ;)

The main reason I was thinking about those two species is their spiky fins. Do you know any species that have pointy fins, but are peaceful?

I like this species but i don't think the fins are that spikey:

These are lousy pictures but here are some f1 which show variance in facial colouring (note the original parents had none); some are blue/green speckled and some have a lot of red - btw so far this species has been very very docile with regard to aggression with some either near or adult f1s being accepted. This is very different then the other species i own even the winkelfleck show more aggression than these guys:

Sorry for the poor quality but they don't like to sit still :(

Bit amusing (to me) the range of colours esp given that the parents have shown none.
