Bigger. Tank I mean.something smaller like anewbie suggested.
I have an empty 15 gallon I was just trying to get away with not having to rearrange everything to set it up. Any suggestions for a tank of that size? I already have a 20 gallon long I plan to dedicate to Agassizii and have kept Macmasteri in the past. Also, I’m having a hard time deciding between Double Red, Alenquer, or Tefe Blue Pearl for my 20 gallon. Any suggestions there?Bigger. Tank I mean.![]()
I mean if you want to leave them in, choose a smaller fish.Bigger. Tank I mean.![]()
15 is also pretty small for leaving in the pair. Maybe for borellii it might work, but both macs and agassizii (and most other apisto species) benefit from more space. 20 long should be fine for a pair of any of the varieties you listed.I have an empty 15 gallon I was just trying to get away with not having to rearrange everything to set it up. It would really depend on how much structure you have in the tank. I have really densely planted tanks, with lots of wood and structural leaf litter, and that means that your fish have a little bit more wriggle room with regards to aggression, as "lines of sight" are very short. I've kept Apistogramma agassizii pairs in this size of tank, but with that proviso.I have an empty 15 gallon I was just trying to get away with not having to rearrange everything to set it up. The typical min suggested for breeding+full time home is 20 long and this can work for not too active species for long period of times. I'm finding now that i am older and well can spend more that 65s work even better (48x16) or 95 (48x24); height of course over 8 or 12 inches does not matter too much though some species are more willing ot use full height than others - so 16 or 18 inch height is not always wasted but this depends on the species.I have an empty 15 gallon I was just trying to get away with not having to rearrange everything to set it up. How many do you keep at a time in the tank? Not an Apistogramma, but I’ve been successfully keeping and breeding Nannacara anomala in a 10 gallon for many years.
Unless you are very very experienced this is a fish that belongs in a 40b; though some would argue a 20 long is more than enough. The males can be a bit larger than your average apistogramma male and the female a bit more aggressive when she has frys though individual fishes have different behavior. How many do you keep at a time in the tank?
It really depends on the bottom dimensions of the tank and the apisto species. Some (a few) species can be relatively safely kept in a 24x12"/60x30cm tank as a trio or breeding pair. Other, more aggressive species, need a much larger tank to be safe. How many do you keep at a time in the tank?
