    Wild caught Baenschi

Another thing I noticed about these fish is that the male has black on the ventral fins. He has red edging on the tail fin, dorsal extension and elongated ventrals, so I am 90% positive its a male. Has anyone else seen male Inca with black ventrals?

    Wild caught Baenschi

Thanks blueblue, so it is normal to see ugly wild caught specimens. Well I hope I can look after my fish well so they fatten up and become nice. Hopefully my male can grow his dorsal extensions out aswell with soft water and good food:)

    Wild caught Baenschi

I am amongst the first in australia to receive Ap. Baenschi. However these fish looked rather unlike the large healthy specimens in photos. I managed to see 6 fish from the 'wild shipment' that all looked rather emaciated, and varied in size. Some fish are also very laterally compressed ie. not...

I am going to live in Malaysia soon. Would it be easy to import apistos from HK or Singapore?

I have a pair in a 2ft tank with 2 week old fry. At first the female kept the male away from the breeding cave and he chased the neons and fish in tanks next door. But now she lets him swim amongst the fry and I noticed his ventrals have gone a yellow/black tone like hers which is quite...

    Steelblue breeding

In my book "South American Dwarf Cichlids" by Bork and Mayland, under the description for Apistogramma Caetei it remarks "The formation of the pedigree Blue-head Apistogramma started in South East Asia, but there it created almost exclusively males. It was the German breeder Werner Krieg of...

    Apistogramma sp. Maulbruter

Adam are these the fish coming through SLS? I would have thought they could be sexable at 2-2.5cm as the males should have slightly longer dorsal lappets? I dont really like the idea of buying 4 and hoping i get a pair, then what to do with the excess fish?!

    Atahualpa

Thanks Michael, Yes I meant in regards to spawning them in a 10 gallon. I generally use about 3 medium sized pieces of driftwood to create a number of 'out of view' regions in the tank. Hopefully this works. Also where you put the cave is important, correct. Bad luck with the Fresa, fish...

    Atahualpa

There is a shipment of Apistos coming to my LFS that contains A. Atahualpa, A. Norbeti and A. Maulbruter. I can only really purchase one pair. I was wondering if A. Atahualpa is as aggressive as is claimed on the net. Can you house a single young pair in a 10 gallon (with lots of plants &...

Yes, might be a good idea. Thanks Mike.

    Angry Eunotus

It is defenitely a pair as their is obvious sexual dimorphism present. Today the female has started digging gravel out from within caves which is often a pre-spawning ritual so I think she is almost ready. I might put the male back in tomorrow and see what happens. Here is the female...

    Angry Eunotus

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I bought a pair of young Ap. Eunotus about 2 weeks ago and it seems the male and female dont get along. I had them in the same 10G tank initially and they kept fighting for their own little territory non stop and so i put the male in a...
