Used...craigslist.com
New...thatfishpace but they are pick up only. Not sure where your located. On occasion I've walked in there to find 75 gal tanks on sale for $75 and pretty sure it was not advertised. I think we left with 4 of them that night. Can't beat that!
Probably the best answer for affordable tanks is 'somewhere near you'. Shipping aquariums is very expensive due to weight and space. If you are looking for a bunch of tanks all at once I would try the smallest store you deal with and talk with the owner. You can probably get a good deal from them if you prepay and pick the tanks up the day they are delivered. Once you have the quote I would compare it to the local superstores... they often sell tanks less expensively than the small stores can buy them at. Do not be surprised if any discount you get is no more than 10 - 20% under retail. The markup on tanks is very low.
Petsmart (in my arear Westen NY) is having a 25% off tanks with their Petsmart card (free) I was there last night and the prices were pretty good. they had 20 high and 40 gallon breeders.
I didn't buy because I'm hoping for the deal of a lifetime on craigslist.
Thanks for the replies. We have a petco being built here should be open in a month or two. Will check them out. My LFS wants 60$ for a 40 long. Thought that was kinda pricey.
Agreed! $60.00 for a 40g long is quite reasonable for a brand new tank.
I was checking out the Petsmart sale yesterday. Unfortuantely, except for the regular 10g, all tanks are priced to include a hood and light. Not very useful if you want to place them short end out on a rack for multiple tanks. I also called another Petsmart to confirm what the first one had stated - yes, they all come w/ lights, hood. (I was looking for a 20 regular to place besides my 40breeder - figuring they're about the same heights.)
One of my LFS - Elmers Aquarium in Monroeville, PA, maintains a very complete and useful tank price list on their website. While they do not ship glass tanks, I find it very helpful as a base line to compare any pricing at other locals. It's also great when dreaming/planning which size display tank I'd like to set up next:wink::
Im located in South Carolina. I guess my issue is Im used to finding tanks for next to nothing, but have yet to buy a new one. Gonna have to bite the bullet and fork out some cash is all there is to it. Thanks for the replies.
