Is 78 to 86 (with 82 optimal) the correct temp range for cf uaupesi ?

So i did a bit searching and the temp being recommended for cf uaupesi (red wedge in case there are other populations) is 78 to 86 with 82 as a good target.

This is a bit warmer then most other species i've kept (not sure i will get these but i could grow out a group in the discus tank and when i get rid of the discus in a few months i'll reduce it from 84 to 82).

So i'm looking for confirmation on actual temperature range for this species. These are actually sold as cf uaupesi red wedge which makes me think they are not actual uaupesi - the closest thing i can find on tom's web page are sp rotkeil which i think has a lower temp range of 75 to 82.

So i guess it kind of matters what the exact species is (good chance the seller doesn't know) and what is a reasonable temperature range and if 84 for a few months is too warm...

Rotkeil in German is Red-wedge in English. This was the common name for A. uaupesi before it was recognized that it was this described species.

Something to think about. Most temperatures for fish habitats in the Amazon are taken during the dry season when water and air are warmer. More fish reproduce during the cooler wet season when flooding occurs and there is more territory available for breeding. A. uaupesi is a species the inhabits jungle habitats that are cooler even the the dry season.

Intesting. I did have a couple of fishes (not going to name the species); that did not do well at 75 yet it sounds like that should have been good. Most of the various species i have i keep at 77-78 though the ipirangia i keep at 79-81. Your comment suggest that 75 should be good for most species under the presumption that 78-79 during the dry season could drop a few degrees. Oh well not sure.

In what way did “they not do well at 75” please?
I'm not sure there might be something wrong with the tank so I think i shouldn't say too much more. It is 100 gallons and the dithers have lasted for years but the dwarf cichild don't seem to last long.

In what book/paper was 75°F/22°C recommended for all species of apistos? Google? GIGO! I actually never mentioned any specific temperature in my comment. You put your words (falsely) in my mouth.

No you didn't but you said the temperature was measured during the warm months so if the temperature is 78 (tom's page) during the warm month what is the temperature during the cool months ?

I realize it is on the equator; anyway i raise the temperature of the aquarium some months ago to 78 but i think it is having some issues at the bottom i have to figure out.

One of the issue is about 30 to 40% of the bottom is invisible (hidden) so it can be hard to detect what is happening.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
