Any experience with apistogramma gibbiceps “Jufari” ?

I don't have pictures (yet) but someone is selling these though it is possible the species is incorrect. They were exported as uaupesi but they think they are 'colourful' gibbiceps.

The aquarium i have free is 100 gallons and was thinking 2 males and 4 females but not sure between them or uaupesi (red tail).

I know the uaupesi are fairly docile if they are like the a sp bluketa i have but i can't find diddly on gibbiceps.

As I recall when I had A. gibbiceps back in the mid-80s their behavior was much like A. agassizii. Mine bred in moderately soft and slightly acidic water but my guess is that they were from the middle Rio Negro near Barcelos. They came in as "Mixed Apistogramma" together with A. hippolytae and were relatively inexpensive (Ah, those were the days).

So the males are a bit aggressive and colourful ? but otherwise not that picky ? Do you think i'm pushing it to put 2 males in a 48x24 aquarium (inches).

Depends on decor. Properly scaped it might be OK with a few females. Just realize one male will be dominant to the deprement of the less dominant one.

yea - just not sure how large of an area they need - the desire for two males is mostly if something happens to one as this species does not seem to be imported often.

I would keep the 'extra' male in a separate tank as a reserve.

I had them many years ago and I thought they were a very similar species in behavior to the agassizii, they are of good size and in my experience a little aggressive among them, something common in Apistogrammas, unfortunately I could only have males of them because the salesman at that time did not know much about them, hopefully you can have good confirmed pairs.
