Hi everyone! I bought the fish in the photo as Flabellicauda. Are they a pair?

Does the fish in the first picture show a single dot on the side when relaxed? If so it's a female, If not and the fish has a permanent stripe(or the stripe can completely vanish, it's also a male.

Females do show a very pronounced lateral spot when in spawning/brooding mood, but then it's easy to identify them as females anyway ;) Other than this, I'm not aware that females do show a lateral spot more often than males do.
What is the size of the first fish?

Then I must have been misinformed and haven't seen a male with just a spot visible. Thanks for the clarification.

This is the first fish. In this color she sat in a coconut for a couple of days. Possibly on the eggs. What kind of water do they need for successful spawning? I have black water, pH 6.3-6.5.

Good luck. I would be keen to see a picture of the male with fins extended.

Did this fish ever have a “sp” name?

It was believed to be A. uaupesi before it's scientific description. A. uaupesi has several common names, see here. However, whether the above fish are in fact flabellicauda is impossible to tell without seeing the caudal pattern of the male and without knowing the catch location.

Incredible list - thank you.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
