Hi everyone! I bought the fish in the photo as Flabellicauda. Are they a pair?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Females do show a very pronounced lateral spot when in spawning/brooding mood, but then it's easy to identify them as females anywayDoes the fish in the first picture show a single dot on the side when relaxed? If so it's a female, If not and the fish has a permanent stripe(or the stripe can completely vanish, it's also a male.
Then I must have been misinformed and haven't seen a male with just a spot visible. Thanks for the clarification.Females do show a very pronounced lateral spot when in spawning/brooding mood, but then it's easy to identify them as females anywayOther than this, I'm not aware that females do show a lateral spot more often than males do.
approximately 5 cm. The second fish is 4 cm.Females do show a very pronounced lateral spot when in spawning/brooding mood, but then it's easy to identify them as females anywayOther than this, I'm not aware that females do show a lateral spot more often than males do.
What is the size of the first fish?
If the EC is about 150uS/cm (or lower) it should be no problem.I have black water, pH 6.3-6.5.
my water has ppm 70, that's about 140uS/cm.If the EC is about 150uS/cm (or lower) it should be no problem.
Yes at 5cm a male would look very different.so, is it a female?![]()
it isNow the main thing is that second fish is a male
It was believed to be A. uaupesi before it's scientific description. A. uaupesi has several common names, see here. However, whether the above fish are in fact flabellicauda is impossible to tell without seeing the caudal pattern of the male and without knowing the catch location.Did this fish ever have a “sp” name?
Incredible list - thank you.It was believed to be A. uaupesi before it's scientific description. A. uaupesi has several common names, see here.
