I have a 6 month old A. hongsloi female who is exhibiting signs of a health issue. She is just sitting upright on the bottom, not feeding, and when I gently encouraged her to move a little (checking her out), she seems negatively buoyant. Her belly/abdomen is swollen/enlarged and she is breathing harder than is normal. There are no other symptoms or indications of a problem. My other A. hongsloi and other fish in the tank are fine. What should I do? IMG_2204.jpegIMG_2203.jpeg

There is nothing you can do.

I've written up something there. Read it and please understand, that the fish is basically beyond saving.

Just to put a wrap on my post, as MacZ indicated, there was nothing I could do. The sick A. hongsloi died within a few hours of my post. I have 5 remaining A. hongsloi females in the same tank that were not affected and have remained healthy.

I came on the forum looking for ideas, I have an A. Hongsloi female with similar issues, slightly enlarged belly, difficulty swimming, staying near the bottom. I have had her about 6 months and she has been in a grow-out tank with some of her 2.5 month offspring. Lots of plants, frequent water changes, live food. It's so hard to understand but I know in fish keeping... it does just happen. Thanks to MacZ for the explanation on the other thread.

The dozen or so juveniles in the same tank seem extremely healthy and growing. Any risk to them?

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
