Hi! I’ve been keeping fish for well over a year now and have been breeding uncommon cichlids. Apistogramma borelli have always been my dream fish and I’ve finally got my hands on a proven pair and I would like to breed them soon :)

Welcome to the site.

This is not A. Borelli. This a domesticated hybrid known as A. "Steel-Blue".
oh interesting. i had a feeling that they looked quite different than regular borelliis, i was thinking it was just from the shipping stress. what is it mixed with?

Hi all,

I think they are Apistogramma "Steel-Blue", but they are definitely male and female.

cheers Darrel
is the female a steel blue as well? I cant find any pictures online of female steel blues but she looks a lot like a female borellii

i hope these guys sell well at the store considering hybrids r frowned upon in the apisto community
The specialized dwarf cichlid community and especially the apisto-people usually for sure don't like hybrids or domestic forms. It's a beginner-thing mostly in my experience.
But the average livingroom fishkeeper usually only cares for "Is it colourful and won't eat the other fish?"
Everybody with that approach I answer "Get another hobby but stop keeping any kind of living being."

The fact your view obviously differs from said average, qualifies you as above average responsible and that's a step towards serious fishkeeping. :)

i got ripped off
We've all been there in one way or another.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
