I'm not finding a decent temperature for a. elizabeth when i check various sites - so i'm unsure if they are a bit cooler 76-77 or warmer water 78-80 or something unique. Any pointers to a good source for an accurate temperature ?

I have a question: Why do you always chase temperatures? I mean... The fish come from a vast area but except the Llanos species from Colombia and Venezuela, hillstream species from Peru and the southern species from Bolivia/Argentina the differences are really marginal between Negro, Madeira or Tapajós.

Two reasons - the m/f from broods and health; too warm they die faster too cold they die faster. I suppose they aren't as sensitive as i feel they might be - though there are fishes where 2 degrees make a big difference.

Anyway they are in a hiding mood though i did find all three but it took a couple of hours. I hate having hiding places :(

While it's right not to underestimate the impact of temperature, you seem to imagine smaller differences to have more impact than they actually do have. In many cases only a difference of more than 5 °C (roughly 10 °F) from an ideal average (usually 25°C) has actual impact while 1-3°C will not really have any impact. Even longterm.

When it comes to sex ratios in fry, ok, much different.

Yea i guess - i actually suspect a range of 10f long term is more signfiicant though short term probably not. Not to nibble here - but at least observationally i find there is a temperature where the fish is 'lively' but will live longer before it goes down hill (talking about long term).

My bed room aquarium for example i like to keep at 74 during the winter but of course during the summer it runs 79-81 which is mostly out of my control and I tend to see more deaths during the summer months - though in truth the fishes are not exactly young but that extra temperature seems to push them over the edge.

Ever animal that is cold blooded has a lower and upper lethal temperature limit. It varies with the species of course. For aquatic species O2 concentration is important. At higher temperatures water absorbs less O2. This might be the cause of your higher deaths during the summer. That being said mid-range temperatures in the environment is acceptable.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
