What are apistogramma nijjensi rio tigre ?

Recently several sites have been advertising a. nijjsseni rio tigre (cz bred) for 2x 'regular' nijsseni.

I had presume it was just a marketing crap to double the price on these cz fishes (i.e, if the simple name doesn't work add a few rivers).

My question are there actually different catch locations for a. nijsseni and if so something special about those label 'rio tigre' ?

I've seen them listed at 4 or 5 places the past couple of months - all were cz bred. I mostly looked because i was curious if they were wc or if a new catch location had been found. The ones i've seen listed have gone for around $80 (usa); while wc nijjensi pairs typically go for $39-$45 and domestic a couple of dollar less.

The only nijsseni-group species confirmed in the Rio Tigre is A. feconat (= A. sp. "Zwilling/Twin"). Without seeing photos of the fish it is impossible for me to say what it is.

Thanks for the links, MacZ. What can I say? Based on the photo of the female (the male photo is useless), it is not A. feconat. The black cheek patch is much too large and the caudal spot too small and too round. It looks to me like an over-bred A. nijsseni.

I have seen these too, in one of my lfs’s…
Guess they are from the same source.
One of the females i saw was almost entirely black. -but not like the black spots some wild caughts get.

But the advertisement said "The best captive bred fish in the trade come from the Czech Republic"
