hello,

I picked up a pair "Wild Caught Apistogramma Species purple" at the LFS last week. After doing a little research i can't find any info on such a species.

Does anyone have any idea what species they are? and if they are indeed male and Female. the bigger one "male" seems to enjoy chasing the little one "female" around the aquarium. would I be better off taking the "big male" back and exchanging it for a smaller and perhaps less dominant male?

I would also like to add a pair of Apistogramma Borelli to this "pair" how would they get along?

Cheers:wink:

Hi there,

Apsitogramma sp. Purple, more commonly found under the names Apistogramma sp. Pebas and Apistogramma sp. Morado.

Just a side note, Morado is Spanish for Purple.

Hello,

Nice fish. As they are new to the tank and your set up, they do need time to adjust and find their territories. The male just wants to assert his dominance and this will get less and less. I believe you have a pair , the photos show the markings. Make sure you have enough caves, cocunut shells etc for all to have enough room and space to get away. You do not state how large you tank is ? cheers jan-kurt

My apistos

Yea, they are quite amusing to watch.

My tank is a 20G Long.

At the moment I have it stocked with the following;

4 guppies (1m/3F)
2 Apistogramma sp. Pebas (M/F)
2 Platies (m/f)
15 Shrimp

I would like to add a pair of Apistogramma Borelli, one or two Dario Dario's.

Any thoughts?

There are plenty of hiding spots for them. The tanks is fairly well planted and should get even better as the plants grow a bit.

A. sp. Pebas is a much more agressive species than A. borellii. In a 20 long I don't think that A. borellii will survive. Probably the same for D. dario.

what species now??

Well if my Apisto. pebas is too "unsocial" what would you suggest?

I can try to return them for a more subdued species....

Any other interesting tank mates that would be better?
