Not in all apisto species, especially members of the nijsseni-group. I've found that if 2 pair off but are unsuccessful raising a spawn or 2 that they aren't interested in breeding with each other. They may live together fairly peacefully but have no interest in breeding with each other, more often than not for the rest of their lives. The funny thing is when i watch them like this morning. The female clears an area and I believe wants to breed but the male seem to lack interest and ignore her. I always though the male would accommodate a willing female ?
