Vanishing Female

I lost my female. Last night I fed the tank - 5 tetras, 3 danios, and cacatuoides pair. Everyone was doing fine. About an hour later I go to see them before I go to bed and the female is missing in action. She is no where to be seen in the tank. This morning I woke up and checked again - no female. Will males eat other cacs? Could she have buried herself in the substrate? Has anyone ever experienced a vanishing fish? The tank is covered completely.

Could she have jumped out when you fed them? (Maybe a dumb question, I know...)

Based on what you told me earlier, I think she is hiding with some eggs. Be patient, and I think u will find her...

Agree, most likely hidden somewhere guarding eggs. Just give her a few days - in the mean time, keep looking.

Found

Well - she was found. I have a driftwood stump in my tank that has "several" hollowed out roots. I thought there was only one hole, but now I know there are several. The female is a golden yellow color and is coming out to feed and then she darts back into stump. The male is guarding the area so I guess this means she has eggs.

This is my first go round so what do I need to have on hand for the fry? Should I remove the other fish from the tank or see how it goes this time. There are 5 tetras and two zebra danios.
