I have a pair of Apistogramma Cac. which the female had eggs. This is in a community tank with tetras and other things like Siamese Algae Eaters and Ringed Loaches. Is it a good idea to remove all the other fishes to help in the success of the raising of the babies? I care more about the Cac. then I do the other fishes so i dont mind removing them. I rather not disturb the female and her eggs. How would I know if the eggs are fertilized? I can just see she guards them all the time and they are orange in her tiny cave.

If orange, they are fertile, but you will not have success with loaches in the tank. Better to get those out of the tank.

So far so good
Been 2 days since the eggs were laid and now i see little eyes wiggling inside the egg.
the female moved them to a more tighter cave
I see at least 10-15 eggs
I have the baby brine shrimp ready to feed them as well
Also realized my PH is about 7.4 which is a bit high from what I've read, but I rather not change anything since all is going good

you are quite right not to change anything as far as water parms right now, fish at this size are the most sensitive to changes.

Now that they hatched, they cant seem to swim properly, they swim a little then sink to the ground, it doesn't seem like they're able to catch brine shrimp yet. When should they be able to? I can still see the 'yolk sac' on their belly. The mother seems to have a busy time trying to keep them from wandering off though. They seem to be scattered around her entrance of the cave

This is awesome! I took a recount now that all the babies have their yolk sac gone and swimming and its a little over 40 of them! I guess there were eggs i didn't see before or they were clumped up. They ate some BBS already and making another batch for tomorrow morning.
Cheers!

ming,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

Congratulations on the spawn. Sounds like you are keeping on top of things. The best of luck to you on this first Apistogramma breeding. Hopefully this one will continue in its success and you will have more to tell us about in the future.

Hi I didn’t know if you still have any of the Apistogramma Cuipeua?
Would be interested if so.
