Tank size for successful breeding?

I'm in the beginning stages of attempting to breed a pair of Apisto Panduro's and had a question about tank size. I have a 5.5 G tank set up for them but maybe this is too small? Is there a minimum recommended size for a breeder tank? Or perhaps a better way of asking this is what tank sizes have people had the greatest success?

My water quality is good (soft, RO water, slightly acidic) and I've given them several hiding places (driftwood, coconut shell) but I want to be sure I've given them enough space to feel comfortable.

What are the dimensions of the tank? I've bred Apistos in 18x10x10" tanks. Males may need to be removed though if they squabble.

Bigger is definitley better of course. Perfect size for a single pair is probably 24x12x12"

Panduro can be quite aggressive until the pair settle down, so watch out for trouble and provide plenty cover in the form of caves, plants and wood.

Eric, the tank size you have is enough. For Panduro, with good food, and soft and acidic water, you will definitely succeed

Thanks for the replies. Now I feel better about their current home, although I think I need to add a few more hiding places. I've got a knobly piece of driftwood and a coconut shell, but one of my fish is constantly being hunted down and picked on. Might not have a pair after all!

I breed my panduro is a 15 (24x13). No problems. I have not seen any signs of aggression between the pair. In fact, they are so peaceful I have just left the fry in there. They are three weeks free swimming now and looking great.

Most nijsseni-group species form pair bonds. They show greater compatibility than polygamous species & can be bred safely (after bonding) in smaller tanks.
