I have recently bred apistogramma cacatuoides for the first time. Its about a month and a half after spawn and the father has developed swim bladder disease. I have seen this disorder in bettas due to over feeding and this case is different he is completely fine but cannot float and sinks to the bottom; but still feeding ; though getting gradually more stressed, (no bulge). This made me look again at the fry and 3 out of the 9 i have not given away are exactly the same, before i thought their hugging the sand was a survival mechanism. I will terminate them but im worried that perhaps the illness could be delayed as in the male. If anybody has experience with this please share, it would be much appreciated.

Ive seen that problem in cichlids only very rarely but lots of times in Killifish and rainbows.Killifish get it in 2 circumstances a problem with hatching (non genetic)where the swim bladder is not filled/defective(so called belly sliders). They also get it as a disease which is seen in later life in the same killis(almost always annual killis)and I think is a manifestation of an infection as they almost always die within weeks. The occasional rainbow fry gets a similar problem where they tend to sink and it takes a lot of effort to swim, this tends to occur especially in highly inbred strains of New Guinea rainbows(because of importation ban in the 80's).This occurs from hatching so ??genetic.
Ive found caccatuoides esp prone to genetic malformations (esp those out of Asia)esp mouth and spinal. What is the history of your stock??

local fish store so i dont know, but he does have a deformed mouth, i thought that he had been in a fight. ****, i hope the mother has enough good in her to carry some through. It must be inbreeding and I went to the trouble of mixing the couple because im aware that when you buy a couple from a fish store they are usually brother and sister. oh well if i am to breed them again i will take the precaution of buying from a decent source.
