Hello all. I have had my females lay eggs 3-4 times in clay flower pots turned on their side.

Mama stands guard, but night falls and the next day, the eggs are gone.

I have some catfish and dwarf albino plecos in the tank along with my apistos.

So, it's obvious that someone is eating them.

People have recommended using clay pots that are turned upside down, and cutting a small entrance with some type of saw.

Can anyone tell me what kind of saw works? Also, any other ideas for saving the eggs, other then moving them to another tank?

Thanks!

I recently did this. What i did was drill a hole in the side, with a regular drill bit. Then I found a round file at my Dad's and filed the hole big enough for the cacs.

The immediately checked it out, but still no eggs for me.

But it keeps the plecos & loaches out.

Yes, the hole doesn't even usually have to be big enough for the male to get in. Just the female. He can fertilize the eggs outside and fan the milt in and over the eggs.
