hi guys

we received a delivery of these guys to work this week, yet I can find very little info on them.

They are stunning fish, and I'm wondering if they have the same requirements as other west african river-rapids dwelling species??

anyone??

I keep some for a short periode. They died after 3 weeks by Bloat desease (I didn't know if it's the rigth name) I think the temperature to much high (27°C) and/or a not well clean filter are the reason of the desease. I give them only dry vegetable food.

But they spawned one time before dying and I have 30 young. So I'll give you some other news later!

Florent... merci!

That, unfortunately, is about the extent of my understanding of French. The pictures on the link are interesting. Is this fish a mouth brooder?

Schwetzochromis stormsi

To the Forum:

There is still some contraversy concerning the correct generic placement of Schwetzochromis stormsi. As Florent states, the correct nomen is probably Orthochromis strormsi, but Kullander and Seegers/de Vos have yet to definitively resolve the issue.

I should really know more about them, but from what I do know, it is a rheophilic cichlid from the upper Congo drainage.

Thank you.

Ques qu'ils sont aussi mechant que les Lamprologus?

Florent, nos poissons sont tres beaux!! Would you say that this fish is as aggressive as Lamprologus congoensis? Also, what do these fish eat in the wild?

I didn't saw the spaw so I didn't know if the eggs are adhesive or not and if they are taken in mouth immediatly.

The only think I can said is that only the female is the caretaker. I didn't know if after the fry are released they remain why the female because she died ...

In the wild they seem to eat a great part of vegetals foods items.
In my opinion they are less agressive than Lamprologus or Teleogramma but they swim a beat more. So the aquaria should not be to small.

Maybe a good idea is to keep them as are keeped Cichlids gobies from Tanganiyka

Including the water chemistry parameters of Tanganyika?

 you are rigth, the water shouldn't be so hard. But I am not sure that the hardness is the most important point for a good keeping.
Good oxygenation, regulary filter cleaning and water change
and vegetable food are more important in my opinion...but I didn't manage to keep alive the parents a long time so peraphs i'm not rigth.

I will take conductivity in the aquarium with the young becauseI make water changes with a third of water of the tap and two thirds of osmosis water (= eau osmosée I don't know if it's the correct expression) but without any measurement because of the practice
