Are Ap. Pebas monogamous, harem, or trio spawners?

Is there a simple way to locate this kind of info in the CA2 & DATZ books?

Thanks

This species, like all members of the eunotus-complex, is an oportunist. If there are several females, the male will breed with all of them. If there is only 1 female, he will breed with her. This species has a reputation of males being agressive to females. Some have no agression problems with the males at all. If I had these, I would keep a male with 2 or 3 females in a 36"/1 meter tank that has 2 - 3 hiding places for each fish just to be safe.

As you noticed both of the books you list don't have much breeding information for this species. The DATZ book really isn't designed for this. It's an identification book. CA2 has old data. Römer writes his species discussions as soon as he gets the fish & then files them away for future use. Sadly, the information on A. sp. Pebas & A. sp. Nanay (= A. sp. Papagei for nearly everyone else) in CA2 was old before before the book was published - and never updated.

Thank you Mike. I had 6 fish (I posted photos earlier for ID and you helped me there too) in a 55 gal. Two of them had blue coloration which I figured were the males and the others had a yellow coloration, which I thought were the females.
Now I am left with 4 fish (2bluish and 2 yellowish). I have no idea where the other two went. I searched in.out of the tank. The only other residents are 2 juvi cories.

These guys must be more aggressive then I thought.

Again thank you for your help.

Female apistos are great at disappearing when they do not want to be bothered. If I dont see mine for a week or so I assume they have spawned. I hope this is what happened in you're case.
