R/O System question

I just bought and hooked up a new R/O system. The model I have is a RD-102 by Water General. I was surprised to find it had a drain connection, as I had figured the water all went through and the bad stuff just collected in the canisters.

So my question is:

Is it typical/normal for there to be about 5-10x as much drain-out water as there is purified water?

Thanks for any info.

Yep..this is normal.
If you come from a country with water shortages (ie Australia) then you can do what I do.
Collect the water and use it for water changes for my African Cichlids, run it into the washing machine or run it out onto the graden. I hate the sound of that water running down the drain.

Thanks. Interesting idea on the Africans. I tested it and it was certainly much more concentrated than my tap water.
