Quick apisto tank question

Would a pair of Borelliis and a pair of A. Cacutoides (sp?) work in a moderatly planted 30 gallon with some tetras and cories? The tank will be viewable from both sides, so there will be swimming space in themiddle, and dense planting on the edge, with flower pots conceiled inside. Sound ok?

Pooky125,

Borellii are a little more of a passive fish than cacatuoides, but the differences might not be so great as to make your tank unworkable. However, I would make sure that the structure in the tank is fairly heavy and that you choose bigger borellii, than cacatuoides, if possble. When and if the cacatuoides breed, the borellii may be outmatched. But, Cichlids have a suprising quality of breaking rules and may individually decide to be more aggressive or passive than what they are supposed to be.

this is not a mix i would try. i believe that you would be much happier with a set-up in that 30 that contains a trio of either cacatuoides or borelli's, than 2 pairs of any dwarf species. males get nooky when they can prove to their prospective females that they are not wimps and can provide protection to their mates and their fry. they will also get their nicest coloration and actually grow better finnage and show much better sexual differences when kept properly. they MAY work, depending on the particular specimens picked, or the borelli male or both could be killed.

would not do that ...

I haved tried that, had 2f and 1m of borelli together with a fullgrown pair of cacs. All the borellis was wiped out within few days !

This was in a heavy planted 100litres.
