A friend picked up a couple of A. eremnopyge / A. sp. Fresa / A. sp. Barbarossa / Strawberry Apistogramma whichever name you prefer. Anyways, he was looking for a reference to them and I can't find any of those names in Romer. Is the species that Romer refers to as A. sp. "Red Check" (I have never seen this name used) actually now described as A. eremnopyge?

Romer's Cichlid Atlas I was too old to describe the new species such as
A. eremnopyge. You probably need to consult other sources... anyhow,
A. eremnopyge's behaviour is very close to the A. bita from Peru and
one basically could use the same setting for it. :)

Thanks Blue.

I was kinda thinking along those lines as well.

A. bita? are you also thinking that the water params should be roughly the same too?

Thanks again

Hi Scott,

I have 1 pair of fresa and 3 pairs of bita currently breeding in the fish house (all are wild fish and the bita are 3 different variants) so you would be on the right track.

On saying that though I only have 1 water type for all my apistos (and the biotoecus!!) and don't seem to have any problems getting individual species to breed.

I've listed the stats previously, but for the benefit of any browsers > 100% RO filtered through peat gives pH ~5'ish, GH of 1 degree and KH undetectable and try to maintain 26 degrees C.

So far this has been used for breeding (succesfully):

Apistos > panduro, baenschi, atahualpa, bitaeniata, sp Morado, eremnopyge, cacatuoides, pertensis, eunotus, hippolytae, juruensis...

A. sp. Red-cheeks/Rotwangen is a deep-bodied form related to A. caetei. Römer's volume 2 will have A. eremnopyge in it. Actually it will have between 25 & 30 new forms of apistos in it.

Yes, i use the same water parameters. For breeding, i use more peat moss
to treat the water and it works very well for the "Strawberry" :)
