Here are two I just got from a local pet store. They had no idea what these were...nor do I.. I'm pretty sure they are some sort of Apisto, just not sure which ones...
It's a relative of Apistogramma...Nannacara anomala. Care, maintenance, and breeding is basically the same for them and most Apistogramma. They can get a little larger then the average Apisto but not monsterus. Nice pick-up!
Not be me! At least not at their current size or from those pictures. Someone else may be able to though. In mature settled fish the male will have a somewhat solid body pattern (dark center scale with a light colored edge) and females will have more of a dark striped/checkboard pattern against a lighter colored body. This can change greatly depending on mood though. These guys aren't called chameleon fish for nothing!!!
How big are they? I'm guessing about 1 1/4", maybe a hair bigger. It's possible that you have a young pair, but it's also possible that they are just taking on different color as a dominant/subdominant role which helps avoid a fight.
I offered more for them and he just told me to take them. I had been in there to look at them several times. But for some reason I could not id them so I did not buy them..I see you have some nice fish for sale. do you have a list and price?
