Is that the Apisto you're referring to Oupsy?

I don't think it's an Apisto.. but the mouth looks nothing like a Pelvicachromis family fish, either.

Looks lke it may be a type of benitochromis, but the split color in the tail is odd for that genus. Sure it is African?

I'm sorry Ted but I know nothing about its provenance other than that it was sold as P. pulcher to a chap in Alberta Canada.
Going on overall body/fin shape, I was thinking along the lines of chromidotilapia? The mouth looks small for any mouthbrooder though.

The mouth and overall body shape are wrong for Chromidotilapia. If it is west aftrican I still lean towards a Benitochromis of some sort.

Looks like the fish that goes by the common name Egyptian Mouthbrooder, can't remember the proper name. Maybe Pseudocrenilabrus something or other.

If that store thinks it is a "krib" I would shop elsewhere in future :frown:

I guess we'll never know for sure. When I first saw it my first thought was an Mbuna of some kind, perhaps a hybrid. What I'm really saying is I haven't a clue! :)
