Plants - West African tank - strong current

I'm in the process of setting up a new West African tank for some Steatocranus mpozoensis that I recently acquired. I was planning on creating a pretty strong current in this tank. I haven't quite decided on the size of the tank, but it's probably going to be around 40G. Any thoughts on which plants would be appropriate for a tank with strong current? The plants don't necessarily have to be West African, as far as I'm concerned. Thanks.

Anubias does well in current tanks. Aponogeton sp., Bolbitus and Crinum sp. actually do better in a current.

I would stay away from most stem plants they will get blown over. Swords would work, specifically the Kleiner Bar sword. It stays under two feet and will add a little color.

Other plants would be java fern and African Fern. The latter loves strong currents but will get quite large. Of course you could always snip off the largest fronds to keep it in check.

Sorry African Fern=Bolbitus. I ready tjudy's post to quickly.

I have crypti wendia in a strong flowing tank and it does better then any of my anubias's do. Also it's roots real help it to stay put in the gravel. Plus it looks really good flowing in the current. LOL

Vallisneria spp., Cyperus helferi, Hygrophila polysperma, Rotala rotundifolia (indica), Vesicularia dubyana (Java moss), Anubias spp., etc.

Thanks for all your advice, guys. The tank is up and running now. I've used a mix of some of the plants you recommended. Can't wait for the tank to fully cycle in and transfer my Steatocranus mpozoensis. Recently, I was even offered a Synodontis brichardi, which sounds like a good addition to this tank.

Doesn't Syn. brichardi come from Lake Tanganyka? S. mpozoensis is a rheophilic cichlid that doesn't live with (higher) plants in the wild. Still I imagine they will appreciate them.

Ted is right. Both mpozoensis and Syn. brichardi are rheophilic, and that is the very reason why I wanted a brichardi to go with my mpozoensis. Brichardi turned out to be hard to find, by the way. (Ted: thanks for your suggestions how to find one, but I had to use a different route.)
