what do you think one true albino and lutistic sorry about spelling. albino i think male, lutistic is female for sure what do you all think on sex. sorry about glass.
Well albinism in pulcher isn't as simple as in many fish but from what you've posted you may well have a complete albino (homozygous) and an incomplete one (heterozygous).
I'm afraid they both look like girls though! The pelvic fins of the paler one are a give-away as in the photos the front ray seems to be shorter than the 2nd and third which is a sure sign of a female. The same applies to the darker one too.
that sucks but i have 2 male normal kribs can you breed normal to albino and get the albino gene and then i could breed the offspring of booth pairs back to each other and get albinos? in other words it is still a recessive trait right. and the darker one has same pelvic fins. which i was afraid of after i putthim in the tank. thanks
You can certainly cross them to typically coloured males. In fact I have a Super Red male in a tank with two females coloured like yours. He has paired with the paler female now and I will try and get spawns from both females with him if possible.
My male is about 2" and the females are a bit over an inch and that seemed to work fine in a 3foot tank. There are plenty of distractions in this tank though to help minimise any aggression.
sounds good is a 20 long at 30 inches good clay pots and the like. also can you post pic of your super red male sounds like a cool fish? thanks for all you in put.
No worries. I'll try and post some pics when I get time on the original thread on here where we discussed the albino kribs. Won't be for a few weeks though as I never seem to be home when the tank lights are on at the moment!!!
sounds good i will wait anxiously for pics. its been along time since i played with dwarfs. got caught up with the giant c/as for awhile. and the red belly through me off on sex twice. thanks for the pelvic fin tip. glade to be home:biggrin:
Albinism is dominant in kribs, so if you breed them to a wild type a portion of the offspring will be albino. If the paler female is homozygous for albinism (as it turns out the paleness of the fish is not an indicator of genotype), than all the fry will be albino.
that is awesome news i am excited now cant wait to move so i can put them in the same tank and hope fully get them to spawn. saves time from all the back crossing to!
