All:

I am newly returning to the hobby, and would like to resume keeping dwarf cichlids. I am particularly interested in rams and Pelvicachromis, but there are literally no fish in this area worth keeping. Can anyone assist me in finding sources for good-quality fish?

Thanks,

Mike

Source for dwarf cichlids

Hello Mike,

If you send Neil a private message, he should be able to help. Simply click on the "PM" icon and type in "Neil" for the user name.

Good luck!

Randall:

Thanks!

Are there some books you can suggest where I might find pictures and descriptions of the various forms of West African cichlids? The most recent one I have is 34 years old. In fact, that book, "Cichlids" by Robert Goldstein, has a picture on the front of a P. taeniatus I've not seen anywhere else.

Books concerning western African cichlids

Hello Mike,

Until very recently, Linke & Staeck's African Cichlids I-Cichlids from West Africa, Tetra-Press, 1994, ISBN 1-56465-166-5, has been kind of a bible on the subject. This book is out of print, however, so getting a copy may be difficult. If you read German, there is also a more recent 2002 edition.

In May or June 2004, we are expecting the release of Dr. Anton Lamboj's The Cichlid Fishes of Western Africa, Birgit Schmettkamp Verlag, 2004. This is the English version of the already published German edition, released earlier this year (2004). Unlike Linke & Staeck's book, this one is quite comprehensive. Please refer to the following: http://www.apistogramma.com/cms/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=500&Itemid=2

Good luck!

Dr. Lamboj's Book

Hello Mike,

On an immediate basis, thirty copies will be available at the ACA convention from July 22-55, 2004, in Denver. We at Apistogramma.com hope to make the book available through the web site as well and will keep the forum posted.

Thank you.

All the best,

Randall Kohn
