Pelvicachromis subocellatus Matadi

I bought two pairs of Matadi and 8 Phenacogramms altus from Wetspotcx (see Aquabid) and the fish arrived today. I didn't take pictures because the fish are still very pale from the shipping stress. I used to own a pair of Matadi a while back and thought those are among the most beautiful Pelvicachromis I've ever seen. They are not easy to find and I was glad to see them on the retailer's list. If anyone is interested in this species, there were about 30 fish available when I bought mine.

Do you know if they are wild or Eastern Europe raised? Matadi has not been collected (as far as I know) for for over a decade, but the Czechs breed a tank strain that Glaser and others sell.

Ted, I don't know the answer but will try to find out. My gut feeling is that the fish are the brood produced by a hobbyist in the U.S. who gave them to the store. I'll let you know once I know more.

Ted: Anthony from Wetspots told me that the Matadi they are selling were bred in the Czech Republic.

Not a big deal IMHO as long as they are quality specimens. This whole 'If it ain't WC, it ain't s*** attitude has gotten way out of hand.
