A couple of weeks ago i was notified that a shop here in the UK called Wharf aquatics had a batch of wild Pelvicachromis Sacramontis in stock, i spoke to a good friend of mine, Andrew wood(BCA cichlidae editor) and he said he was traveling close to Wharf with work and would pick up a pair for me(Cheers mate, much appreciated!) he rang to say that there was'nt much left but there was a pair and the large male left in the tank that was a little thin, would i like it? obviously i agreed because sacramontis is in my opinion the nicest looking Pelvicachromis and one of the species i had yet to keep, i thought the thinness would be fixable with several weeks of heavy feeding and good water!!
On arriving at Andrews to pick them up, i checked out the fish and Andrew was certainly right!! he was thin, in fact he was old and looked ready to keel over at any minute! Oh well in for a penny(or slightly more!!)
On arrival i placed the pair into my planted 180litre living room tank and left them alone, except for feavy feedings and plenty of water changes..

Last week saw them starting to dig under the bogwood and coconut shells and i had my fingers crossed for a quick spawning before the male keels over on me.
Last night saw a lot of activity around one of the coconut shell caves and today on my return from my daughters swimming lesson about half a hour ago i watched the female flirting with the male, bending her body and quivering in the usual manner but this time her tube is fully down and she is looking thinner in the stomach..I assume they have just started to spawn because they are still flirting together.
I snapped a few pics quickly and then covered the tank witha towel to stop any outside movement distracting them..Fingers crossed i will have young soon?? I certainly hope so because these fish are fast becoming my favourite!!

Great looking female there. I like P. sacrimontis too. I have some P. pulcher from Ndonga, Cameroon that look a lot like sacrimontis.

Really nice fish, I hope to get some in the near future, but I have "access" only to tank-bred ones. Could you reveal price of your pair?

Hi,
I have fingers crossed:wink: Hope they'll more successfull for their "first" time than my Wouri.
I really don't know. I think the most popular:biggrin: My friend (who buys fish in Germany) told me only about German bred (not tank-bred strain I think), and 36PLN/each which means little over £7 for fish. That's quite good price in my opinion.

Thanks to my friend maybe I'll get some Congochromis or at least, Nanochromis:)
