Hello Brett,

Well, I wouldn't characterize Pelvicachromis rubrolabiatus as a sand sifter any more than P. pulcher or any other member of the genus, for that matter. They do often pick through the substrate looking for food, but so do many other cichlids.

This cichlid, however, is a rank beauty.

All the best,

Randall Kohn

Yes, I've had many cichlids go through the sand, but not so many run ALL the sand through their gill rakers at least with the frequency these little guys are.
