Hi

I have recently bought a pair Pelvicachromis Rubrolabiatus.

I would like some advice on how to breed them.
My PH is 6.00 and my DH is about 80 the tank has bogwood in it and java moss and other plants to seperate the pair because of aggression they both are on a diet of frozen bloodworm and frozen mozi larvie and other such foods
so can anybody tell me any other advice which may help please

Regards

Phil

It's always adviced to buy more than one pair of Pelvicachromis, especially those more aggressive, and let fish to choose a proper partner. Then their bond can be very strong. With now only two fish you will have some trouble to get a well bonded pair.
Frozen bloodworm is not a good food for detritivorus fish. My Pelvs (P. taeniatus "Wouri", actually) looked great and were in good shape fed with glassworms, blackworms (mosquito larvae) and small pellets for herbivorous Cichlids.

BTW, I hope you made a typo with water hardness; 80 DH is good for some Central American Cichlids!

My experience with the species is that they are very aggressive towards each other unless they are spawning. This is the one Pelvicachromis that I have not been able to get to produce fry. Aquaticclarity has managed to do it, so maybe he will offer some insight.

Hi Phil, you'll need a bigger tank. All of the larger Pelvics are aggressive to each other so you will need a 4-5 foot tank.
Were did you buy them? They are very hard to find in the UK.
