Wild caught western Africa dwarf cichlids are not popular in Taiwan, especially the less colorful P. roloffi. It doesn’t has the strong body color and beautiful tail fin as other male Pelvicachromis fish, and the female shows only lighter red purple belly even before spawning. Normally, a light purple body with cream yellow cheek.

I got two pairs at six months ago, one in a tank with black soil, the other with aquarium river sand. The female guarding fry is now in the tank using N-brand black soil. I am not able to take the photo with male and the fry because he always runs away while the camera is approaching the tank.

Good luck with growing the fry. Are you planning to keep some fry for yourself any breed new generations, do some "inbreeding"?

I have no plan for inbreeding now for the F1 fish. But they do need luck to grow up since I will always leave home for more than one week for business trips, and nobody will help me for taking care the aquarium tanks. Tks.

They may not be one of the most colourful but certainly very interesting and one of the shyest if the Pelvichromis species. I had a pair and they did not like anyone approaching the tank. But if yer patient they will get used to you and will show a lot of different variations of behaviour than other pelvichromis looking after there fry.
