Peat filtration question

I'm planning (Building the tank this weekend) an acrylic paludarium. Target species are a couple of tree frogs, possibly a smaller anole/amphibian, and apistogramma (most likely cacatuoides) with some suitable dither fish, and then area appropriate vegetation/submerged vegetation/decor.

To fully simulate the amazon basin, I was planning on filtering through peat, but this will be new to me. (Most likely a bag with peat in the filter under the tank.)

Is it better to get the aquarium established with fish first, then gradually lower the pH through the peat, or to start with peat and bring the fish right into that environment?

hi,
in my view i would get your fish first as long as your water isn't too high a ph.
the apisto's Ive bought haven't come from tanks that have too low a ph.
i think most breeders only breed their fish in low ph and then rear the fish in grow on tanks with a higher ph that way you wont be putting fish in too bigger ph fluctuations
