Right now I am so confused to say the least. I have two pair in a 20 long planted tank. I have had 5 spawns to date and these are still small taenies with the males being maybe 2" and the females being under 1 1/2".
~1st spawn was with dom. male and fm(female)1. The fry made it to the free swimming stage and slowly disappeared.
~2nd/3rd spawn was with dom. male and fm2. None of the fry made it pastwiggler stage.
~4th spawn was with now ? male and fm1. This was during the 3rd spawn, so I assumed it was with male 2.
~ 5th spawn was with Dom. male and and fm2. These are the fry(6) that I have removed in the last couple of days and they were free swimming.
This morning I woke up to find that the female heirarchy has again shifted and fm1 is now back with dom. male and fully colored.
I "see" a pattern developing, when the fry make it to free swimming and the fm's are guarding/rearing the fry and weaker than the other fm., the dom. male switches his ladies. I want to sell a pair and have a buyer for them. Yet, I don't want to offer her a pair that won't breed and what fm do I remove. I do have another tank(15g) that I can set up for the other pair, yet again, what fm do I remove?
I don't want to sell a pair just to put money in my pocket, I want to sell a pair so they can breed for them and help to expand their number in the hobby( they are not very common near me).
That way I can get another pair, breed them and then cross breed the fry from two different gene pools.
I have only bred convicts and pulchers( like that takes any effort), and want to expand my knowledge, the availability of other species and also expand on the species that I have.
Any input and help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you in advance, FNC.
