not caucatuoides...

I bought a pair of unidentified Apistos from my LFS thinking they were probably caucatuoides that had not colored up yet (size about 3/4"). Today I bought a pair of the real thing. Although they look similar (horizontal stripe, similar fin shape on male), the only color on them is a hint of color in the top of the male's tail, and they seem to lack the dark leading edge of the dorsal fin.

Anyone have any ideas what they might be? I can go Google for images if I get some leads!

Thanks,

Alan

Thanks especially for that second link. I had already been using Google image to try to find them and also had poked around here in the gallery.

The male definitely has the double-point/lyre style tail, and I have to correct myself that they do have the black leading edge on the dorsal. There is also a black smudge area under the head-to-tail line, basically across the belly.

The pictures most resembling them are the A. juruensis. What's the likelihood my LFS would have 20 of those? If it isn't likely, what else that's more common would look similar?

Thanks.

Mystery solved. A. gibbiceps. This makes some sense since a different LFS has a tank full of large ones. Perhaps someone here in Dallas is breeding them.
