Normal Male Behavior?

When I had just 2 male a. Cacatuoides in my 75 gallon, they were always out and about together. When I added leaf litter and then 2 females, the males would chase the females around here and there, but business as usual. I now just have 1 male in the tank with the 2 females (and rasbora and ottos), but the roles seem to have switched. The females are visible more often, and out for each feeding. They seem to be doing very well. The male, however, is hiding under leaves most of the day and I haven’t been seeing him come out to eat. Could his attitude have changed because the females have not been interested? I’m just worried I’m going to find him dead one of these days...like the male I moved out to my 10 gallon who was acting the same before I moved him.

I feed twice per day - New Life Spectrum Optimum flakes in the morning, and frozen brine shrimp in the evening.

Well, now he’s hanging out at the top of the water with a slight lean.

Time to pull him. Seems the other male has claimed the entire tank as his territory.

The other male has been gone, and died within a week of moving him to another tank. Same behavior pattern.

I'm sorry. I sort of skimmed after the first sentence. If hes not at the top of the tank from being displaced, hes there because hes headed down the path of the 1st male. Sorry

I agree. I just wish I knew what was going on with them. The females are doing great!
