Hello,

I am always on the look-out for fish forums and I was directed to apistogramma.com by Randall. I've been keeping different freshwater fish for about five years, though the only dwarf cichlids I've ever kept were P. pulcher and M. altispinosa. I only ever had one kribensis, but I had two Bolivian rams and they spawned every so often. I used to have some wonderful pictures of them but they were lost to a virus on my old computer.

For the past few months I've been maintaining mostly smaller tanks because I can't attend to the tanks at home while I'm at college (I live in CNY and go to school in Maine). I have a 55g, 20g hexagon, and a 5g holding tank at home. My parents also started a 20g reef tank about four months ago and I have been helping them out with that.

At school I have a 10g housing my nearly-14 yr. old Chinese firebelly newt, and (gasp, shock, alarm) a goldfish and young pleco I had to adopt or stand by while they were flushed, alive, down a toilet.

I have various other empty tanks (a lot, in fact) that I will probably only be able to get going once I have my own house or something like that.

My next project is a tank that will be on a semi-public display at my school. It is a 120g (48x24x24) freshwater tank that I am working on developing into an African river biotope. I may not have fish that are all from the same area, but they will hopefully all be from rivers across the continent. The primary decor will be driftwood, with some low-light plants and a few rock formations. The substrate will be Tahitian black moon sand to help some of the shyer species feel more comfortable. I will be setting this tank up in September, and hope to include two pairs of African dwarf cichlids in it (probably Pelvicachromis sp.).

That's about it. At school I am majoring in Marine Biology, and I am investigating (well, fairly on my way to) a second major in Aquaculture and Aquarium Science.
