New Apisto setup question

I'm setting up a new aquarium for my daughters. How many pairs of Apistos would a 65 gallon (250 liter) tank (36" x 18" footprint) hold? They'll have guppies, tetras, corys, otos/plecos, maybe Flagtail Catfish (Dianema urostriata), as tankmates.

Any suggestions for a first time Apisto fishkeeper?

hi 'perrito blanco'. is that your real name or a nick?

i would put 2 pairs of different dwarfs in there, like aggassizzi and rams, and nothing too agressive, like viejitas. cacatoides are nice too.

what species do you have available at your lfs, that you like? usually we all end up looking that way. let us know, and maybe we can suggest 2 that would be nice together.

You actually have quite a few options with a 65. You still need to pay attention to the type of Dwarf Cichlids that you put in there, as aspen relates. But there are alot for you to choose from. I would think that you could easily house 2 different types of Apistogramma and maybe 3. With 2 different species, you are not so limited by the numbers. You could keep 2 groups of fish (like trios or harems). With 3, you probably would want to stick with pairs.
And, again as aspen suggests, what you choose depends on what is available to you, either at stores near you or via shipping. Check out your available resources and then make your decision. If you choose fish that you want out of a book and then try to find them, it will be a different ballgame. Plenty are available, but not all.
