Thanks!

George

Hello George,

The above water parameters are perfect for breeding Nanochromis transvestitus! In the absence of any documentation that links sex ratios of fry to pH in this species, I don't know what to tell you. Sex ratios of fry in some Pelvicachromis species are linked to pH, but I've never heard of nor experienced the same causative phenomanon in any Nanochromis species.

Perhaps others reading this thread can share their experiences.

Good luck!

Nanochromis transvestitus fry

Hello George,

CDawson may be on to something. The guys who originally described Nanochromis transvestitus reported the pH of the water from the type locality (Lake Mai-Ndombi) at 4.0. However, maintaining a pH under 5.0 in aquaria can be tricky. Please watch out for crashing.

Good luck!

sex ratio - my experience

I have been breeding transvestius for about 2 years now, pH 4. Perfect sexratio, 50/50. Half a year ago I used tap-water when changing water. After a while the pH was about 7. In the following brood I could hardly find a single male among the 50-60 fryes.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
