Hello George,

Assuming that the water is okay and that your fish are healthy; yes, it is possible that your Nanochromis transvestitus are killing each other off. This species is known for high intraspecific aggression levels, especially male to female aggression. If the problem continues, it might be a good idea to separte the sexes in separate tanks.

Good luck!

Hi Randall

I tested the water and it`s fine.

I do a weekly water change .

I guess I change around 40% of the water weekly .

Could this be killing them as well???

I had this problem when I bred Apisto Elizabethae,a few years ago. Big water changes were killing them

Thanks

George

Hello George,

I don't know if the water changes are killing your fish; it's really a judgement call. If you think this is the problem, perhaps changing less water each week--say 25% instead of 40%--will help. If it ends up that the unexplained deaths are not due to the water changes, separating the sexes might be a good idea.

Good luck!

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
